Manager for Congressional Relations

At a time of new global opportunities and challenges, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) provides strategic insights and policy solutions to decisionmakers in government, international institutions, the private sector, and civil society. A bipartisan, nonprofit organization headquartered in Washington, DC, CSIS conducts research and analysis and develops policy initiatives that look into the future and anticipate change.

CSIS is seeking a Congressional Relations Manager to help execute the Center’s bipartisan outreach efforts with Congress and assist the Center with other External Relations priorities. This position will work closely with the Director to track activities on Capitol Hill and in the Administration, provide guidance to CSIS programs and expand the Center’s outreach to Congress. Additional responsibilities include, organizing events and meetings on the Hill, updating and managing the contact database; liaising with CSIS programs to track future initiatives that relate to priorities on the Hill; and tracking CSIS congressional activities. This position reports to the Director for Congressional Relations.

Successful candidates will have a degree in international relations, government, or public policy, as well as 2-3 years Capitol Hill experience. A background in international relations and an interest in policy-related research are desirable. Familiarity with the legislative process and the Washington policy community are essential to this position. Strong written and verbal communication skills are emphasized. The candidate must be highly organized and able to operate in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities. In addition, she/he must have an ability to promote the organization’s mission, products, and scholars persuasively to the Washington policy community.
