After 42 days, Pak’s State of Emergency Lifted
As promised, Musharraf lifted the emergency rule in Pakistan. Constitutional changes declared during the emergency rule remain intact and the justices relieved of their duties are forced to retire permanently. Questions surrounding parliamentary elections, taking place in January, remain unanswered, although Musharraf promises they will be fair and transparent. The stability of Pakistan and popularity of his party has a lot riding on these elections, so we hope every effort is made to uphold Musharraf's promises.
