Dean Kamen, Founder, DEKA Research & Development Corporation

During this period of growing public and policy attention to water and health, technology has emerged as a key element in creating a better, healthier world. World-renowned inventor Dean Kamen will discuss two of his recent inventions, one that generates power, and another that turns polluted water into a potable drink. Kamen is known for a series of successful inventions, including an implantable insulin pump, a portable dialysis machine, and an artificial arm, as well as the Segway personal transporter.

Kamen was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 1997, received the Heinz Award in 1998, and was awarded the National Medal of Technology in 2000. In 2002, he received the Lemelson-MIT Prize, and in May 2005, he was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame. Among Kamen's proudest accomplishments is founding FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), an organization dedicated to motivating the next generation to understand, use, and enjoy science and technology.
