The Food Chain

In light of the current global food crisis, the NYTimes has delved deeper into the issue of world food production during the month of April through its series The Food Chain. The latest article in the series examines the environmental costs, namely pollution, of shipping food across the globe. Previous articles explore the effects of drought in Australia on the world supply and price of rice; the response of American farmers to rising food prices; and the fundamental difficulties posed by increasingly expensive cooking oils. The main page of the series also features several slide shows and graphics that illustrate the growing demand for food and the changes taking place in food production.
