Forecasting the Security Issues of 2008
Yesterday, CSIS released Global Forecast: The Top Security Challenges of 2008, its first annual compilation of essays that identifies and analyzes the major political, military, and economic challenges in the year ahead that have strategic implications for the U.S. The report is divided into five sections:
- the U.S.’s pressing matters in Iran, Iraq, and Afghanistan;
- developments in Asia, the rising center of global affairs;
- critical security challenges in the European theater;
- regional priorities in Africa and Cuba;
- transnational threats to security, including climate change and nuclear proliferation.
The afterword, penned by CSIS trustees Richard Armitage and Joseph Nye, outlines a new approach to U.S. foreign policy based on “smart power” that can inform the activities of the next administration. For more information on Global Forecast, click here.

I was a bit surprised that
I was a bit surprised that Pakistan didn't get top billing, but after checking the link I see it's covered in Asia. I probably would have lumped it with Iran, Iraq, and Afghanistan although I can see why they didn't.
