Help Reduce Global Warming: Plant a Tree
Climate change is a global problem that will require an international effort to solve. So what can one person do? How about plant a tree? Check out this article from the Washington Post that looks at the benefits and limitations of planting trees as way to capture carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. According to the article,
a fair-size white oak tree with an 18-inch-diameter trunk would reduce atmospheric carbon dioxide by 622 pounds per year. A mature apple tree would lower carbon dioxide by more than 300 pounds.
Planting trees alone will not reverse global warming…but it’s a step in the right direction. For tips on planting your own tree, check out Casey Trees, a DC-based organization that works to plant and care for trees.
