Thanks for keeping up the profile on this. There were also two articles in Slate, one by Fred Kaplan and another by Daniel Byman on the importance of acting from both a moral and a practical perspective.
Shifting out what humanitarianism demands we do can be tricky in Iraq. We certainly have a responsibility to the Iraqi people but that doesn't necessarily give us the right to act without the support of the Iraqi people, whether or not we believe we act in their best interest.
But in this case, our responsibility is even stronger, they helped us and will die if not protected, and we have the right to act since they voluntarily seek asylum. Our failure to help them is disgraceful.
