Highlights from World Water Week
World Water Week in Stockholm, Sweden began with a global reminder for everyone to wash their hands. With 2008 being the International Year of Sanitation, the opening days featured memorable quotes and the opening of the “Sanitation is Dignity” exhibit from the German Toilet Organization. Mid-week, “Asia Day” was fully slated with sessions that addressed the serious challenges the continent faces to ensure water for its growing needs. More sessions highlighted issues on water and climate where participants emphasized the role of water management in adapting to changes that lie ahead—with a portfolio of strategies ranging from sharing international waters to trading virtual water to wastewater reclamation.
