Humanitarian Response Index

The final report of the DARA Humanitarian Response Index 2007, a tool designed to measure how well humanitarian donors are performing relative to their commitment to good humanitarian donorship principles established in 2003, was recently presented in London with the participation of former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, DARA's Director Silvia Hidalgo, and HRI Project Director Augusto López-Claros. Click here for the introduction chapter from the final report, including the complete rankings and an analysis of the performance of a number of countries, including that of Sweden, this year's top performer, and the United States, which ranked 16 out of 23. The U.S. low-ranking comes as no suprise but only verifies the point we made in, "A Perilous Course"--we need to reevaluate the way our government handles aid, by looking to other more successful countries' innovative approaches.
