Israel Ambassador discusses the implications of Iran’s nuclear program

Israel’s Ambassador to the United States, Sallai Meridor, sat down with Newsweek to discuss one of Israel’s primary threats: the Iranian nuclear program. Deeming Iran, “the most critical issue for America and the Western world,” Meridor discusses the regional and global implications of Iran’s quest for nuclear questions. Given that, “nobody would argue against” Iran getting enough LEU (to quickly convert to HEU) for a bomb in 2009, countries throughout the region are nervous. Beyond the region, however, Meridor goes a step further to argue that Iran’s revolution has global ambitions. He says,

Iran's regime, unlike North Korea's, has regional and global ambitions. Just listen to what they're saying and watch how they're acting. Yes, their number one thing is to protect their revolution, but it's not just to protect it from being ousted, it's to protect their revolution in order to grow their revolution. They truly believe that they have the right ideology for the Muslim world. Part of this ideology is confronting Western values and world order.

Are Iran’s ambitions truly this global in nature? How should the upcoming Administration tackle the Iran issue?
