Jeffrey Sachs on Millennium Villages Project

The Managing Globalization blog of the International Herald Tribune features a Q&A with Jeffrey Sachs about the Millennium Villages Project.  The questions range from the long-term sustainability and self-sufficiency of the villages, to the criteria for selection of the participating villages, to opportunities for other actors (governments and otherwise) to support the Millennium Villages effort.  Though not a surprise, it is interesting to note Sachs’ persistent calls for and faith in foreign aid and donor support, which he believes is the key for prolonging and scaling up the success of the project.  Sam Rich, in his article in the Wilson Quarterly, provides a nuanced picture of the Millennium Villages Project that highlights numerous issues, from governance to gender equality, that complicate the prospects of the foreign aid model touted by Sachs.
