Full info below the jump. Immediate Job Opportunity: Senior Associate Peace and Security The Fund for Peace seeks an energetic and resourceful person as a Senior Associate. This is a full-time staff position with long-term prospects for growth and responsibility for a professional with a desire to make an impact. Job Description: The Fund for Peace (FfP) is a non-profit research and educational organization that specializes in promoting human security in conflict zones, particularly within weak and failing states. It utilizes a teaming structure to push the frontiers of thinking and research within six thematic areas: Conflict Assessment, Sustainable Development, Strengthening Civil Society, Peace and Stability Operations, State-Building and Foreign Policy. FfP professional staff members work in multiple thematic areas, as determined by expertise and the needs of the organization. They may also develop new projects within the six core thematic areas. Among other responsibilities, the Senior Associate will be the Project Leader, working under the direct supervision of the President, for a newly funded Center for the Study of Threat Convergence (CSTC), building upon two years of existing work. Threat Convergence refers to the intersection of weak and failing states, terrorism and nuclear proliferation. The CSTC will focus on investigating how ungoverned spaces may enable nuclear smuggling and what the international community should do to prevent it. The Center will also work to bring together experts from the three security fields to better examine the issue. The position involves conducting field research in the Black Sea area, Latin America, Asia and Africa; running a policy forum; managing an on-line essay series; issuing timely reports; and making policy recommendations for the US and other international actors. The Senior Associate will also participate in other FfP projects, as appropriate, and will integrate the substantial accomplishments of the FfP into the activities of the CSTC. Qualifications: The successful candidate will be a self-starter, with the capacity to be highly productive, meet deadlines, conduct rigorous research and work as part of a team in a fast-paced, multi-tasked environment. Applications will be accepted from candidates with backgrounds in government, the military, the private sector and academia with demonstrated research experience and excellent oral and written skills. Candidates must have a graduate degree or equivalent training in the Peace and Security field, and a minimum of ten years of experience, including work overseas, on issues related to U.S. foreign policy, international relations, security studies, comparative government, counter-terrorism or nonproliferation. Publications, foreign language capability, and other relevant accomplishments highly desirable. U.S. citizenship or permanent residency required. Salary: Commensurate with experience, plus benefits.
