John Nagl Leaves Army to Join CNAS
Lt. Col. John Nagl, perhaps most well known for his role in writing the Army's counterinsurgency manual with General David Petraeus, is leaving the Army to join the Center for a New American Security. After a distinguished career, Nagl cited his family's urging and the opportunity he sees to contribute to the national security discussion in a different way as reasons for his departure. "Obviously you don't have to do that in uniform," he said. Nagl was profiled in a New York Times Magazine cover story four years ago and is the author of Learning to Eat Soup with a Knife: Counterinsurgency Lessons from Malaya to Vietnam.
