Migration Information Source

With an estimated 200 million migrants living across the globe, including 80 percent outside the United States, the issue of migration affects countries of all income levels. One magazine is working to shed some light on this complicated matter. The Migration Information Source is an on-line journal that collects and disseminates data about migration from a variety of organizations and governments. It also provides analysis about the challenges and trends of international migration and refugee matters. Published by the Migration Policy Institute based in Washington DC, the website’s mission is to provide more thorough information and insight about migration and its effects on society. According to the president of the Migration Policy Institute, Demetrios Papademetriou,

"I don't believe we have a consensus on a single thing in migration. You have to build a knowledge base if you're going to make progress."

Although some have criticized the Migration Information Source for promoting porous borders, the journal has attracted a strong following from scholars, policy makers, and migrants around the world. MigrationInformation.org receives approximately 140,000 hits each month and its readership continues to grow.
