My Pakistan | It’s Troubled, But It’s Home
Mohsin Hamid brings us back to everyday reality in Pakistan in his WashPost piece, reminding us that despite political turmoil, life goes on. Hamid feels, as the polls have shown, that Musharraf's popularity is at an all-time low, especially due to the emergency rule he imposed just a few months ago. He goes on to describe his experience on the day of Bhutto's death - he was in Lahore visiting familiy and friends, speaking of the riots and chaos. Please read - there's more going on beyond the headlines.

It was a good article. I
It was a good article. I actually had a friend out there to get married about a week before Bhutto was killed. He tends to emphasize the he always feels rather safe, although that may depend some on region.
Also, even in the U.S. things can get disturbed after a major assassination. My mom had a Baltimore area birthday party break up rather rapidly after word came out that MLK had been murdered. So he may have felt different had he been there a bit longer.
The other thing my friend always emphasizes is that the militant Islamists do not have broad based support. That's something I get from pretty much every reliable source I consult.
