New Index From World Bank: Logistics Performance

The World Bank just released a new study, the Logistics Performance Index (LPI), that ranks 150 countries in an effort to pinpoint which countries have more accessibility to ports, borders, and shipping facilities. Understandably, the study found that the countries with better-run transportation systems and port procedures are more likely to capture the benefits of globalization. The index strives to set indicators for international competitiveness. According to the report,

LPI measures the performance of the supply chain in international trade… and will help inform national policy makers and development organizations looking for solutions to problems affecting a country’s ability to connect to global markets and foster economic growth.

Rankings of note include the following: Singapore – 1st; Germany – 3rd; United States – 14th; China – 30th; and Russia – 99th.
