Reign of Sand in Inner Mongolia

Circle of Blue, a group of concerned journalists, scholars and citizens dedicated to alerting the public about the dangerous implications of future water shortages, recently released their new Reign of Sand multimedia report. While traveling through Inner Mongolia, the Circle of Blue team found that the area’s increasing desertification is creating a situation reminiscent of America’s 1930s Dust Bowl. The worsening conditions are threatening the livelihood of the region’s nomadic farmers, who have depended on the grass of the steppe since before the days of Genghis Khan. The encroaching desert is also causing massive dust storms, which according to this U.S. Embassy Report, are having an impact as far away as Colorado.
