Solar Energy Projects Underway Across the World

From rural Arizona to the desert of Israel, solar power plants are taking off. Foreign Policy cataloged the world’s six largest solar projects in this recent post. The earliest completion date for one of the projects is BP Solar’s mega plant outside of Tres Cantos, Spain, which produces 300 Megawatts. The creation of the plant will cost between 390 and 470 million dollars. Americans can look forward to three completed plants in 2011, two in Arizona and one in California. So far these projects have flown under the radar in the mainstream media, but more attention is sure to come as completion dates near.

Very informative.

Very informative. Interesting that the press in general chooses to ignore cutting edge developments like these that emphasize the acheivable goals of freeing ourselves from carbon based fuels much quicker than the average person is led to believe. If the cost of the Iraq war was invested in these types of inititives and subsidized as heavely as the petrolium industry
we could be energy independent in a decade with little to no impact on the environment or drinkable water. What can we do to spread the knowledge? I'm from Iowa and we are at least making some dramatic impact in the world of wind power but causing about as much negative impact through our huge ethanol production. A bandage over the open gash of of our thirst for energy.
Thanks for a place to express these opinions. Keep up the good work!
