Is the Taliban Spreading its Wings??
In our report on Afghanistan, "Breaking Point," we warned of unchecked corruption in the government, an ongoing struggle with drugtrafficking and warlords, and most importantly an increase in the dangers presented by Taliban insurgency groups. An article in the Washington Post today, "Emboldened Taliban" not only affirms our fears but builds upon them as well. Reporter John Ward Anderson with the help of special correspondent Imtiaz Ali in Peshawar, Pakistan, confirmed reports of a growing Taliban presence in Kabul, the country's capital. An enlargement of the Taliban's grasp on Afghanistan would prove detrimental to Allied efforts in the area and demonstrate the ailments of the Afghan government in trying to strengthen itself against the Taliban. With around 25,000 American troops in Afghanistan, please read both the report and article for a true understanding of what is going on in the war-torn country.
