Uruguay Buys First $100 Laptops
According to BBC, Uruguay has ordered 100,000 of the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) “$100 laptops.” This is the first country to place an official order for the computers. The laptops are to be distributed to school children between the ages of six and twelve in eight or nine of the countries nineteen regions.. If the initial batch is successful there are tentative plans to buy 300,000 more so that all school children in the country can be issued a computer. While this and other initiatives to promote the affordable laptops have been relatively successful, OLPC will need to sell three million of them before it makes a profit.
