U.S. OKs Airspace for Turkey’s Attacks on PKK
Turkey launches strikes into Iraq, prompting calls from the international community for Turkey to use restraint and diplomacy in resolving their conflict with the PKK. The Iraqi parliament called the strikes an attack on its sovereignty, and complains of the hundreds of villagers frightened into hidding in caves after the attacks. The Bush administration cleared airspace for the Turkish air strikes, yet urges greater coordination between Turkey and Iraq. While understanding the difficulty of the situation, we hope for a resolution that keeps in mind the civilians on both sides of the border.
