What has the arrest warrant achieved? | Ocampo’s pursuit of the President of Sudan

Flikr photo by hdptcar used under a Creative Commons license.   Since the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant for the President of Sudan, Omar Hassan al-Bashir, he has expelled fifteen aid agencies from the South and defied travel warnings, most recently with a trip to Saudi Arabia.    What then has Prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo achieved by going after a sitting Head of State?  Was it the right decision to protect the vulnerable people of Darfur and what does it say about Ocampo’s leadership as first Prosecutor of the Court?    Acclaimed Darfur activist and scholar Alex de Waal along with journalist Julie Flint criticize the direction Ocampo has steered the Court in and explain the danger this poses to the peace process in Sudan.  The article, Case Closed: A Prosecutor Without Borders, challenges the motivation of the arrest warrant and addresses the legal question of genocide in Darfur.
