Women Entrepreneurs in Post-War Reconstruction

This paper written for the IFC’s Gender Entrepreneurship Markets division focuses on the role of women entrepreneurs in post-conflict economies. From a microfinance institution in Bosnia to government policy in Rwanda and an NGO program in Afghanistan, the paper examines “why women entrepreneurs are crucial for rebuilding post-conflict economies” and cites best practices for fostering women’s entrepreneurship among NGOs, governments, and financing agencies. The work is part of a broader project on women building small- and medium-sized businesses in post-war reconstruction and the role these entrepreneurs are playing in rebuilding their societies.
