Youth Working for Social Change
As evidenced by the increased turnout of the youth demographic during this primary season, young people can play a critical role not only in shaping the future of the U.S. but also in advocating for positive change across the world. Case in point: Student Movement for Real Change (SMRC), a student-driven organization that works to empower young Americans by providing them opportunities to participate in health and education projects in Kenya and South Africa. With chapters on college campuses across the country and partner organizations ranging from The Nelson Mandela Foundation to Idealist.org, SMRC has effectively raised its profile and engaged in important initiatives on water access, school construction, and youth connectedness. The organization also has a student-run blog. To find out more about SMRC’s projects in Kenya and South Africa, watch this video.
