This presentation examines the ways in which individual health status and health-related behaviors are constructed and interpreted by states, societies and markets. The core themes considered are identity, ethnicity, gender, stigma, and adaptation. This research stems from a Ford Foundation-supported project to expand social science research in the Russian Federation on health and health-related issues.

 


 

Dr. Irina Denisova is an Assistant Professor at the New Economic School in Moscow and a lead economist at CEFIR. She got her Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Manchester (UK). Her research interests are in the field of labor economics, health economics, income distribution and social policy. Her publications address adult mortality, political economy of social reforms, unemployment and active labor market policies, labor market effects of trade liberalization, determinants of poverty, and education and health reforms.
