Afghanistan: Strategies for the Future

  • Thursday, Mar 30, 2006
  • CSIS’s Post-Conflict Reconstruction Project (PCR) hosted a panel on strategies for Afghanistan’s future. PCR Director Frederick Barton moderated the panel, which was composed of J. Alexander Thier, of the U.S. Institute of Peace; Dipali Mukhopadhyay, of the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy; and Gabriel Dvoskin, of Sayara Media and Communication.

The panelists discussed both progress and setbacks in the joint efforts of the Afghan government and the international community to reconstruct the country, drawing on their extensive in-country experience and expertise. They identified the greatest gaps in the reconstruction efforts, and evaluated whether the Afghan National Development Strategy (ANDS) is a sufficient framework for addressing the most pressing challenges in Afghanistan's reconstruction.
