The Primacy of Water Development: Sustainability through Community
Community ownership of water resources defines management for long-term sustainability. Freedom in Creation, a community led arts-based psychosocial, education, and water development program in war-affected Northern Uganda, has developed a unique model for water development whereby children are enabled to help bring fresh water to their community. This establishes community ownership and sustainability as the children, known to abuse wells, instead protect them.
Come celebrate Freedom in Creation child artists, child soldiers no more. This will be an opportunity to learn about water development within a historic conflict zone. It will also be one through which to better understand the role of the arts within humanitarianism. Participants will also be able to purchase children’s artwork as well as jewelry and photographs by Freedom in Creation founder Andrew Briggs and enjoy the music of Andy Zipf.
