CSIS hosted the Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Senator The Honorable Bob Carr, to deliver his first policy speech in the United States. The United States – Australian alliance is now in its 61st year and is based on enduring common values and mutual interests. This was Senator Carr’s inaugural visit to the United States as Australia’s Foreign Minister.
Senator Carr was the longest continuously serving premier in New South Wales history and is one of the most respected members of the Australian Labor Party. Senator Carr was named Foreign Minister by Prime Minister Julia Gillard in March 2012.
