CSIS and the Task Force on the Future of American Innovation held this conference to address the consequences of underinvesting in basic research and to examine the new and competitive strategic environment facing the United States.
The meeting began with remarks from Representative Jerry Lewis (R-CA) and Senator John Cornyn (R-TX); was followed by a panel including Steven Koonin (Chief Scientist, BP), James Kadtke (Senator Warner’s Office), Fred Saalfeld (Senior Fellow, Potomac Institute) and Tom Vice (Vice President, Northrop Grumman); and concluded with remarks from Representative Jim Cooper (D-TN).
