October 8, 2015 • 10:00 – 11:00 am EDT

The CSIS Pacific Partners Initiative is pleased to invite you for a discussion with Hugh White, professor of Strategic Studies at the Australian National University. He will discuss the new geopolitical challenges in the Asia-Pacific region facing Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull’s government, and what the rising tensions between Washington and Beijing mean for the U.S.-Australia alliance.

White has been a journalist, ministerial and prime ministerial adviser, and senior officer at the Australian Department of Defence. He was the principal author of Australia’s 2000 Defense White Paper. His recent publications include “Power Shift: Australia’s Future between Washington and Beijing,” published in September 2010, and The China Choice: Why America Should Share Power, first published in 2012. White studied philosophy at the University of Melbourne and Oxford University.
