The CSIS Africa Program hosted a meeting featuring Binaifer Nowrojee, Director of the Open Society Institute's East African initiative in Nairobi. She discussed the status of reform efforts to combat corruption within Kenya, the current political climate and rising human rights abuses, and offered perspectives on the U.S. approach towards Kenya during this period.Joel D. Nowrojee, originally from Kenya, is a distinguished human rights advocate and currently serves as the director of the Open Society Initiative for East Africa. After graduating from Columbia Law School, Nowrojee worked for numerous human rights organizations, including Human Rights Watch for eleven years, the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights, Amnesty International and the Swedish NGO Foundation for Human Rights.TopicsRegions
