The Freeman Chair in China Studies and the Japan Chair at CSIS, in collaboration with the Stanley Foundation, hosted an event to release their report Building an Open and Inclusive Regional Architecture for Asia.
This report presents an overview of the history of Asia-Pacific regionalism; draws from discussions held at a a two-day conference in St. Michaels, Maryland, in November 2006 to explore the frameworks and contested issues that will shape the future of Asian regional architecture; and concludes with several specific policy recommendations for how, as a new Asia-Pacific architecture emerges, Washington can most effectively realize the interests of the United States and its friends in the region.
