In early November, negotiators representing the Colombian government and FARC reached an agreement on the second of six agenda items in their peace framework: the future political participation of FARC members.  This partial agreement puts Colombia even closer to ending the half-century armed conflict—and the potential political, economic, and cultural impacts the prospect of peace offers are immeasurably high.  While the peace negotiations represent an opportunity for Colombia to consolidate recent years’ security gains in rural areas, considerable work remains in generating opportunities for rural citizens.  To better understand the country's successes in developing its countryside—as well as where more attention is needed moving forward—the CSIS Americas Program led a one-year investigative effort to address the state of Colombia's rural development efforts and how U.S. assistance can better address Colombia's new reality.  Join us for the launch of the report detailing the project's findings and conclusions.

Open to the public; however, seating is limited.  To RSVP, send name and affiliation to the Americas Program at americas@csis.org
