Consolidating Peace and Power-Sharing in Kenya

  • U.S. Ambassador to Kenya, Michael Ranneberger discussed Kenya's progress in implementing a power-sharing arrangement reached between President Mwai Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga after controversial elections in December 2007, followed by ethnic violence and mass displacement. He addressed the current humanitarian and political developments in the country since the violence abated, as well as U.S. policy towards Kenya by addressing the key steps that need to be taken to continue to move the country forward.
