Dr. Brown was Secretary of Defense under President Carter from 1977 to 1981, Secretary of the Air Force under President Johnson, Director of Defense Research and Engineering, a negotiator on SALT I and SALT II even as he led development of nuclear ballistic missiles, president of Caltech, and, after leaving government, a member of the Boards of Directors of a dozen Fortune 500 companies.  For over a decade, Dr. Brown has been a member of the Defense Policy Board which advises the current Secretary of Defense.
