Creating UNMEER: A Discussion with Anthony Banbury

February 5, 2015 • 8:30 – 10:00 pm EST

On September 2014, the UN Secretary-General established the UN Mission for Ebola Emergency Response (UNMEER) - the institution's first-ever emergency health mission. Under the leadership of Anthony Banbury, UNMEER was charged to coordinate the UN system and its operational partners on the ground in order to implement a rapid and coherent response to the Ebola crisis. Four months later, some significant progress has been achieved, but the unprecedented outbreak continues to challenge the international community.

Please join us on Thursday, February 5, for a lively conversation with Mr. Anthony Banbury on the creation of UNMEER, its progress, and outstanding challenges. Mr. Banbury will also discuss how lessons learned from his previous experiences with the Haiti Earthquake, the conflict in the Central African Republic, and the elimination of chemical weapons in Syria apply to the current Ebola crisis and UNMEER. J. Stephen Morrison, Senior Vice-President and Director of the CSIS Global Health Policy Center, will moderate.
