DOD Directive 3000.05 — One Year Later
- Monday, Dec 11, 2006
-
CSIS's Post-Conflict Reconstruction Project hosted Dr. Jeffrey Nadaner, deputy assistant secretary of defense for stability operations, for a discussion titled "DOD Directive 3000.05: One Year Later."
Department of Defense Directive 3000.05, Military Support for Stability, Security, Transition, and Reconstruction (SSTR) Operations, was issued on November 28, 2005, and demonstrated a landmark shift in thinking, placing stability operations the same level as combat operations. The war in Iraq both prompted and was the first major test of this new thinking. Nadaner discussed what changes have come from the issuance of the directive, and what can be expected in the future.
