This session explored how different countries approach technology innovation and some of the major obstacles and opportunities associated with technology transfer and widespread technology deployment.
The development and deployment of clean energy technologies will play a key role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In order to ensure the development of clean energy technologies, countries employ a variety of strategies. National innovation strategies provide governments a way to guide the growth of clean energy, foster research and development, steer investment, and act as a guide for the private sector. Individual strategies will necessarily emphasize different national strengths and long term goals. On the technology dissemination side, technology transfer has long been an important and controversial part of international climate negotiations and other multilateral discussions.
