Enhancing Euro-Atlantic Security Amid Uncertain Times: EU - U.S. Security Strategies and Recommendations

CSIS held a conference following a fourteen month collaborative research project led by the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) of Rome, in partnership with the French Fondation pour la Recherche Stratégique (FRS), the Swedish Institute for International Affair (UI), and CSIS.

Joined by American and European experts, this conference promoted an open and in-depth transatlantic exchange on the following:

• European and American approaches to strategic security assessments with a focus on American and French national security reviews, the 2003 European Security Strategy (ESS) and the 2010 NATO Strategic Concept.
• Cross-border threats in the areas of cyber security, biosecurity, pandemic preparedness and natural disaster management.
• Current trends in the American and European security and defense industrial bases as both undergo a comprehensive restructuring to meet contemporary challenges.
• Transatlantic cooperation on four complex security issues: a nuclear-armed Iran, Afghanistan, the Haiti earthquake and natural disasters, and piracy off the coast of Somalia.
