First Transatlantic Energy Forum

FIRST TRANSATLANTIC ENERGY FORUM

The first Transatlantic Energy Forum, held in Paris, France on May 16-17, 2008, drew a distinguished group of participants reflective of the high level of official interest in the conference. The EU Institute for Security Studies kindly provided its facility as the venue for the event.  Speakers and participants included senior representatives from the International Energy Agency, the European Commission, NATO, France’s Commissariat à l'Energie Atomique, the Danish Delegation to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Department of Defense, and the U.S. Missions to NATO, the EU, and the OECD, respectively. Bringing together 16 U.S. and 18 European strategic thinkers, energy experts, and policymakers, the first Transatlantic Energy Forum featured sessions devoted to:
• Energy security
• The role for nuclear energy
• The challenge of China
• The impact of India
• Russian energy policy
• Institutions and energy challenges

Over the course of a day and a half, the presentations and discussions of six panels enabled participants to examine a wide array of information, analysis, and policy recommendations, which will serve as a foundation for the second TEF and for the project's final report.
