April 24, 2015 • 12:15 – 1:45 pm EDT

A New Customs Framework to Facilitate Small Business Commerce and Security

Please join us for keynote remarks on the transformation and acceleration of international e-trade shaped by new technologies, global value chains and the need to enhance physical and cyber security measures by the President of eBay Global Marketplace, Mr. Devin Wenig followed by a panel discussion on a new CSIS report, “Fueling the Online Trade Revolution: A New Customs Security Framework to Secure and Facilitate Small Business e-Commerce.”

Between 2006 and 2012, the value of U.S. online transactions nearly doubled from $3 trillion to $5.4 trillion, and by 2017 it is expected that a third of these transactions will be with foreign counterparts. Despite its vast growth potential, e-commerce continues to pose policy challenges that require action to accelerate economic growth, which are examined alongside innovative policy solutions in this new report.

As Congress debates the pros and cons of Trade Promotion Authority and the Trans-Pacific Partnership, this timely discussion will offer new insights as to how the future of e-commerce will evolve in the coming years.
