The CSIS Africa Program hosted Gareth Thomas, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Department for International Development (DFID) entitled: with on November 1, 2005 from 12.45 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. The event was held at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), 1800 K St., NW, Washington, DC, B1-Level, Conference Room A.
The Minister discussed UN Reform and the UN Summit, with particular attention to reform of the UN development and humanitarian machinery. The Minister will also address the implementation and follow up to the G8 Gleneagles Summit. J Stephen Morrison, Director of the Africa Program at CSIS, moderated this discussion.
Gareth Thomas has been a Member of Parliament for Harrow West since May 1997 and the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Department for International Development (DFID) since 2003, with responsibility for Asia; Europe; Latin America, the Caribbean and Overseas Dependent Territories. He is also DFID's Green Minister with responsibility for the department's environmental performance in relation to the Sustainable Development in Government Framework and targets.
The Minister served as a member of the Environmental Audit Select Committee from November 1997 to October 1999. Prior to his appointment to DFID, he was working as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Education, Charles Clarke MP.ProgramsRegions
