Next Generation Dialogue on Industry and Defense: Globalization versus the Culture of National Security

April 30, 2015 • 2:00 – 3:30 pm EDT

The Defense-Industrial Initiatives Group at CSIS is leading a series – the Next Generation Dialogue on Industry and Defense – to reinvigorate the dialogue between the Department of Defense and industry on significant shifts underway in the defense sector. The series will bring together industry leaders, government stakeholders, and outside experts. This event, the first in the series, focused on ways to find the right balance between protecting national security, accommodating industry's increasingly global reality, and preserving an open investment climate.

William "Bill" Lynn is the Chief Executive Officer of both Finmeccanica North America and DRS Technologies, Inc. Prior to joining DRS in January 2012, Mr. Lynn served as the 30th United States Deputy Secretary of Defense from 2009 until 2011. Serving under Secretaries Robert Gates and Leon Panetta, he managed three million personnel and oversaw an annual budget of $700 billion. He also personally led the Department's efforts in cybersecurity, space strategy, and energy policy.
