Grid Storage Technologies

January 27, 2015 • 10:00 – 11:30 am EST

Frontier Energy Series

The CSIS Energy and National Security Program hosted a panel discussion on grid storage technologies featuring Haresh Kamath, Program Manager for Energy Storage at the Electric Power Research Institute,  Praveen Kathpal, Vice President of AES Energy Storage, and Katherine Hamilton, Policy Director of the Energy Storage Association.

Grid storage is often touted as a way to help integrate intermittent sources of electricity such as wind and solar onto the grid. The development of grid storage technology, however, is about much more than just renewable integration. This session will address various grid storage technologies and their current and future potential to help create a more resilient and cost-effective energy infrastructure. Panelists will discuss existing and emerging grid storage technologies and applications, market factors affecting storage development, the deployment of storage technologies and regulatory/policy factors affecting grid storage deployment. Sarah O. Ladislaw, Director and Senior Fellow with the CSIS Energy and National Security Program, moderated.
