For many Arab youth, education neither leads to jobs nor prepares them for jobs. Arab policymakers are only beginning to grapple with the problem. Mona Mourshed, director of the Global Education Practice at McKinsey & Company, explained new findings concerning successful education-to-employment initiatives at a Gulf Roundtable entitled “Changing the Meaning of Success: Young People and Employment in the GCC” at CSIS on December 19, 2013. Drawing on McKinsey’s survey-based analysis of education-to-employment challenges globally and across the Middle East, Mourshed argued that in order to build more effective ways to prepare youth for the workforce, educators and employers need to step into each other’s worlds.
