Dr. Arvind Virmani is president and founder of the non-profit organization Chintan and FICCI Mentor on public policy and economics. He is also a nonresident fellow in the Brookings Institution’s Global Economy and Development Center. Previously, Dr. Virmani was executive director at the International Monetary Fund. He has been an advisor to the Indian government at the highest levels for more than 25 years, serving as chief economic advisor, minister of finance and principle advisor of the Planning Commission. Dr. Virmani has served as a member of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and of Appellate Tribunal for SEBI. He was chairman of the board of trustees of SBI Mutual Fund, and director of the boards of several financial institutions, including LIC, PNB, and Allahabad Bank. Virmani served as chief executive of the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER). He has published extensively on macroeconomics, growth and finance, international trade and tariffs, and international relations.
