Indigenous Politics in the Andean Region: Present State and Future Outlook

The Americas Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies is pleased to host the conference “Outlook for Indigenous Politics in the Andean Region” on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 in the B1 Conference Center of CSIS. Indigenous populations in the Andean region of Latin America have played an increasingly larger role in national and local politics in the past two decades, but that role may be changing.  On December 1, the Americas Program of CSIS will host a conference examining indigenous politics in Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia and drawing conclusions on a regional basis.    Key variables will include the institutional state of indigenous movements, results of alliances with non-indigenous groups, the dynamic in the process of promoting an indigenous policy agenda, and the outlook for indigenous politics.
