A specialist on East Asian political economy and international relations, Phillip Lipscy is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Stanford University and a Center Fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies.  His fields of research include Japanese politics, U.S.-Japan relations, international and comparative political economy, international security, and regional cooperation in East and South East Asia.  He obtained his PhD in Government at Harvard University.  He received his MA in International Policy Studies and BA in Economics and Political Science at Stanford University.

Last year, the Japan Chair at CSIS in collaboration with the Japan Foundation Center for Global Partnership launched the Japan Policy Fellowship Program, an initiative to strengthen links between U.S. scholars of Japan and various stakeholders in the Washington, D.C. policy community.
