Japan-US-Russia Trilateral Conference

On January 17-18, scholars from CSIS, in collaboration with the Japanese Institute for International Affairs (JIIA) and the Institute of World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO) of the Russian Academy of Sciences, met in Tokyo Japan for the second trilateral meeting on Northeast Asian security.

The conference was organized around three panels: The domestic and nuclear affairs of North Korea, energy security in the Far East and East Siberia, and maritime order in East Asia.  Keynote speakers  included Seiji Maehara, Foreign Minister of Japan, who spoke on the significance of the U.S.-Russia-Japan trilateral conference, the common threats and challenged confronting the U.S., Japan, and Russia, energy issues, and a new order in the Asia-Pacific region.
