The Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS) Global Health Policy Center and Africa Program hosted Dr. Peter Mugyenyi, the founding director of the Joint Clinical Research Center, based in Kampala, Uganda. He offered reflections on the momentous mobilization this decade to introduce, on a national scale, effective HIV/AIDS treatment, care and prevention programs in Uganda. He focused on where the most promising enduring impacts have been achieved, what key gaps persist, and future priorities looking forward. He also spoke specifically to PEPFAR's contributions and areas for further refinement, and commented on the implications of the global economic crisis for existing programs and future initiatives. This event was held in conjunction with Physicians for Human Rights.
